CdSe quantum dots enhancing blue emission of nematic liquid crystals

Abstract Herein, we report the enhancement in blue emission of nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) doped with CdSe quantum dots (QDs) at room temperature. QDs were synthesized by a high temperature wet chemical method. X-ray diffraction pattern suggest zinc blend crystal structure without impurity phase formation. The absorption peak and PL is observed 503 nm 526 respectively. size found to be 2.3 calculated excitonic peak. polarization states QD-based NLCs studied using polarising optical microscopic (POM) images under crossed geometry polarizer analyser. uniform colour distribution throughout cell indicates thickness planar alignment molecules. Moreover, dark, bright POM are used analyse defects NLC It worthwhile note here that incorporation helps reducing light leakage centres which further increases hence NLCs. significant intensity about 60% upon doping attributed increase molecular composite.
